Why I don’t Drink Unfiltered Tap Water

A recent Associated Press investigation reported that U.S. manufacturers, including major drug makers, have, over the last 20 years, legally released at least 271 million pounds of pharmaceuticals into waterways that often provide drinking water – contamination the federal government has consistently overlooked.Compounds detected in our drinking water include lithium, used to treat bipolar disorder; copper; nitroglycerin used to make explosives and heart medications; phenol and hydrogen peroxide which are used as disinfectants; and hundreds of other things you don’t want to ingest.Apparently there is no central repository of data regarding the discharge of these materials into what ultimately becomes our drinking water.  The data do exist, but are spread over a variety of agencies so are hard to summarize.  Also there is no legal mandate for industry to monitor their waste streams for these chemicals. I think I’ll run my tap water through a carbon filter, if you please. Jeremy Myers is the owner of Lyssabeth’s Fort Collins Wedding Officiants

Does Iron Fencing Discolor

When I went to England over 10 years ago, one of the features of the homes I remember is that many of them within the city had beautiful metal fences that ran along their property lines.  I believe that most of them were iron, but I am not sure because not all of them had turned that green color.  Do all Iron Fencing types discolor?  I know that you can paint them, but I think that sort of defeats the point of a gorgeous metal fence.  Is there some other way to keep them from turning colors from being out in the elements?
