Why a Scratching Post?
January 20th, 2010
You may ask, “Why is it necessary to get a cat scratching post for my pet?” First off, a scratching post diverts your cat’s attention from scratching your furniture or carpet. You may have a harmless little kitten now, but once it becomes a fully grown cat, it will be messing around your house, leaving unsightly scratch marks here and there. Scratching is an innate behavior in cats, meaning you cannot control it, even if you punish them for doing so. A cat scratching post saves you the aggravation by being an alternative scratching area for your feline. Getting a scratching area also ensures that your cat gets adequate exercise and stretching outlet. Scratching is inherent in cats because it serves them an important purpose. It is their way of exercising their leg muscles, keeping them fit and agile. Scratching also facilitates “shedding off” the old layers in their claws, making them sharp and at just the right length.
