Federal SMART Grants

September 15th, 2010

If you want to go to college chances are you will need to apply for financial aid to pay for your tuition. Your financial aid advisor at your school will be able to walk you through the process, but may fail to mention that your declared major will affect how much money you will qualify for in federal grants. This is especially true when it comes to qualifying for federal SMART grants, which are part of the fafsa application. The federal SMART grants are available to students who qualify for the Pell grant and who are pursuing majors deemed valuable to national security and other liberal arts majors chosen by the U.S. Secretary of Education. This grant will allow you to have an extra $4000 that you will not have to pay back when your education has been completed and is definitely something to consider when choosing your major.
