An Involved Parent Made the Difference

October 3rd, 2009

My mom’s kids have always done quite well in school. I think that mostly has to do with the attitude in which we were raised. We didn’t have a lot of money, so it sure wasn’t privilege. My mom was a teacher and we just knew that we were expected to do our best. She did have two kids with reading difficulties because of learning disabilities, but even they were able to more or less overcome their difficulties. In fact, my youngest sister went to college and is an avid reader despite the handicaps that she had throughout her school years. Being involved made all the difference.
