Medical Malpractice Insurance Necessary For Health Care Givers

My dad works in a hospital as an emergency health care practitioner. He says that one of the biggest reasons why medical costs are so high, is that the health care professionals and doctors have to have such high insurance premiums, for all of the medical malpractice law suits that patients bring against them, and not always for valid reasons. He also says that many of the patients he sees could take better care of themselves, in order to avoid such issues as strokes and heart attacks, and that as a consequence, their medical costs would not be so out of reach for them.
