Craik-Patton House – Charleston, WV

April 10th, 2009

When you Charleston are on your West Virginia vacation you may want to take some time to visit some of the historic locations in the area such as the Craik-Patton House.  You probably have never heard of it but you know the name Patton from WWII history and if you are a history buff of President Washington then you may have heard about the Craik family.  The historical ties to the home, built in the Greek revival fashion in 1834, show how just one home can have a definite impact on the culture and history of the area.Think about what it would be like to live in the days of the petticoats, carriages and Civil War.  The house has tours that will allow you to delve deeper into the style of living required by those that both wanted a good life and yet were committed to assisting their countrymen attain peace and stability. From the days of working with Washington on the survey team to becoming affiliated with him during his Presidency the Craik family has a great deal of history to share.  As for the Patton family, who later owned the house, came warriors of the Civil War and a leader, years later, in the battles that marked the WWII life and times of General George Patton.
