Different Methods on How to Learn Electric Guitar

My son seems to have a very natural ear for music.  He has never taken a music lesson of any kind in his life, but can pick up an instrument and play some tunes and/or beats just from hearing them.  I find it to be an amazing ability and one I would love for him to explore.  My husband and I have tried to encourage him to take interest in an instrument because we believe he has great potential.  We are currently looking for different methods on how to learn electric guitar.  He is quite shy and just doesn’t seem to have any interest in taking lessons.
