How Do You Take Care Of Your Aquarium Water?

November 24th, 2009

Water quality should also be your priority to ensure the good health of your pet fish.  This is because water from lakes, seas, and streams differ from what we use.  Though tap water is made safe for drinking, this is not the same for fish.  The chlorine used to treat our water is actually harmful to their gills, making it harder for them to breathe.  The limited living space also means collecting more impurities from their leftover food, excrement, and respiration, since the water supply is not recycled through a continuous water flow.  Aquarium water treatment is done to remove waste in solid and gas forms, before it becomes harmful to the fish.  The first step for ensuring proper aquarium water treatment is by changing the fish tank water as often as you could.  Before you fill in the tank with new water, you must first treat it.  Here are the basic steps for aquarium water treatment:1.  Use a clean container or bucket that can hold the right amount of water to be treated.  Use warm water to rinse it, and do not apply any chemical or detergent in cleaning it.  2.  Pour clean water into the bucket or container for aquarium water treatment.3.  Use water conditioners to remove traces of chlorine and other chemicals in the water.  Take note of the proper amount of conditioner to use and make sure that you’re using the right water conditioner for the type of aquarium you have.  Or, you can simply leave the water-filled bucket overnight for the chlorine to evaporate.4.  Let the conditioned water settle in the same temperature of your aquarium water.  5.  Drain a part of the tank with aquarium water and replace it with conditioned water.
