However before you pass judgment, do know that the Thai people place an enormous amount of emphasis on saving face and maintaining their social dignity. Thus small white lies and exaggerations or downplaying are not only acceptable but also expected! A Thai person will go to great lengths to save you from loosing face in public and will also expect the same from you. To this effect lying and avoiding conflict will be used as tools. At the end of the day this is just one of those little cultural things that you will have to get used to if you are ever coming to Thailand.
