Why Do Maternity Shirts Always Make You Feel More Pregnant Than You Really Are?

May 7th, 2010

When I first became pregnant last year I was concerned about how fast I was outgrowing my normal clothes. Being a smaller girl and wearing size small tops, I knew that even the smallest baby bump was going to stretch everything I owned out. When I was only three months along, I went into the maternity store to look for maternity clothes and noticed that every shirt or pair of pants I tried on gave the illusion that I was larger than I really was. Every shirt was made in a babydoll style, and gave the appearance that I was larger than the small bump I was really sporting. So I had to ask myself if I wanted to buy bigger shirts at a regular department store, or if it was time to take the plunge and invest in the shirts I would need in just a few months anyways. I chose to pick up the most flattering shirts I could find and went home. The next day at work suddenly everyone noticed all at once that I was pregnant. I am guessing it was the fact that I looked five months pregnant out of nowhere. So basically, what I would like to find the next time I become pregnant, is a little more variety, and not being forced into wasting money, or exposing my pregnancy when I wasn’t ready.
